Hat Description

Mushroom Cap is a slouchy pixie Hat. It has a single colour brim in UK DC (US SC). The body is wider than the brim and then shapes gradually towards a pixie crown. The Hat has narrow stripes in two colours all the way through.

Note

UK and US terminology is provided.

Yarn A is used for the brim color, and Yarn B the stripes. All odd-numbered rounds are non-increase rounds and are worked in Yarn A; all even rounds are increase rounds, worked in Yarn B. For a neater finish change yarn on the sl st at the end of each round. The first 1ch of each round does not count as a stitch.

 

Gauge

14 sc (dc) x 16 rows to 4in/10cm on 4.5mm hook

sc: single crochet
ch: chain stitch
sc2tog: work 2 sc together as follows: put hook into next st as if to work sc, pull yarn through (2 loops on hook), put hook into next st, pull yarn through (3 loops on hook), yarn round hook and pull through all 3 loops.

How To – US version

With Yarn A, make a 4ch foundation ch and join into a ring with a sl st.

Foundation Rnd: 1ch, 10sc into ring, using Yarn B sl st to first sc to join the round [10 sts]

 

Crown

Rnd 1: 1ch, 2sc into st at base of 1ch, *1sc into next st, 2sc into next st; rep from * to last st, 1sc, using Yarn A sl st to first sc to join the rnd [15 sts]

Rnd 2 & all even-numbered rounds: 1ch, 1sc into st at base of 1ch, 1sc into each st of rnd, join the rnd using Yarn B with a sl st to first sc.

Rnd 3: 1ch,* 2sc into next st (first being st at base of 1ch), 1sc into each of next 2sts; rep from * to end, using Yarn A sl st to first sc to join the rnd [20 sts]

Rnd 5: 1ch, *2sc into next st (first being st at base of 1ch), 1sc into each of next 2sts; rep from * to last 2sts, 2sc, 1sc, using Yarn A sl st to first sc to join the rnd [27 sts]

Rnd 7: 1ch,* 2sc into next st (first being st at base of 1ch), 1sc into each of next 2sts; rep from * to end, using Yarn A sl st to first sc to join the rnd [36 sts]

Dec Rnd 2: 1ch, starting in st at base of ch, *sc2tog, 1sc into each of next 7 sts; rep from * to end, using Yarn A sl st to first st to join the rnd [56, 64, 72 sts]

Now work plain rounds of sc in Yarn A until Brim measures for approx. 1.5in/3.75cm

 

Finishing

Weave in all ends and block as required.

How To – UK version

With Yarn A, make a 4ch foundation ch and join into a ring with a sl st.
